Jesus Likes His Coffee Strong<\/strong><\/p>\n

I imagined Jesus
\nshowing up
\nat my front door,
\nexpecting to join me
\nfor a cup of coffee.<\/p>\n

He claims I
\ninvited him over,
\nbut I don\u2019t recall it.<\/p>\n

So, I close the novel
\nI\u2019m reading –
\nhe notes the title and
\nsays, \u201cYeah,
\nthat\u2019s a good one,\u201d –<\/p>\n

and I fill my \u2028second-favorite cup
\nand set it
\nin front of him,<\/p>\n

the one that says
\n\u201cLive like it\u2019s all
\nmade out of heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perfect.<\/p>\n

He grins and says,
\n\u201cIt is, you know,\u201d
\nand holds up a palm.
\nWe high five.<\/p>\n

I apologize for
\nhow strong I\u2019ve
\nmade the coffee,
\nbut he flashes
\nanother grin and says,
\n\u201cIt\u2019s made out of heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n

He seems to have
\na bit of something
\ncaught in his teeth,
\nbut I can\u2019t bear
\nto tell him.<\/p>\n

We talk politics –
\nhe insists even that
\nis covered by the
\nCoffee Cup Rule –
\nand I am
\nspeechless.<\/p>\n

We cover sports
\nand the weather
\nand movies and sex.<\/p>\n

If I get agitated he
\npoints to The Cup.<\/p>\n

After an hour or so
\nhe takes his leave.<\/p>\n

He gives me
\na shoulder hug and
\ncalls me \u201cBro\u201d and
\noff he goes.<\/p>\n

I have a new
\nfavorite Coffee Cup.<\/p>\n
