It\u2019s Just a Train Whistle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every morning,
\naround 4 a.m.,
\na train whistles
\ninto my head
\nand stops
\nsomewhere behind
\nmy closed eyes.<\/p>\n

Without hesitation
\nI board and
\noff we go.<\/p>\n

The landscape
\nwe roll through
\nis as familiar as
\nmy damp pillow.<\/p>\n

Billboards
\nspelling out
\nevery adventure
\nI missed
\nbecause I feared
\nthe effort or
\nthought I smelled
\ndanger.<\/p>\n

Neon signs
\nvivid with the
\npanoramas
\nof every misadventure
\nI didn\u2019t avoid
\nbecause I
\nclosed my eyes
\nand laid my head
\nback on the
\ncouch cushion.<\/p>\n

Fields of
\ndreams I
\nplanted,
\nbut wandered off
\nand someone else
\npicked the fruit and
\nplucked the flowers.<\/p>\n

I ride this train
\nnearly every day,
\nbut I\u2019m thinking
\nI do too much thinking.<\/p>\n

Today could be
\nthe day
\nI see the train
\ncoming and
\nwave it through
\nwithout stopping.<\/p>\n

Why do I imagine
\nI must
\nget onboard?<\/p>\n

Awhile ago
\nI received
\na message<\/p>\n

that I\u2019m
\nadored
\nby the Maker of
\nAll That Is,<\/p>\n

inviting me to
\nremember
\nI have lifetimes
\nof Adventures
\nawaiting,
\nacres of
\nlandscapes
\nwhere dreams
\ncan be planted.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t need
\nto keep
\ntaking that train.<\/p>\n
