Bemusement<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a sloppy slough of
\nself-abnegation and
\ndespond,
\nno doubt conspired
\nby some
\nrabid variant of
\nnarcissism,<\/p>\n

I was regaling
\nmy Beloved
\nwith a recitation
\nof the myriad
\nmeans and manners
\nof my slippery
\nsloth and crafty
\nprocrastination,<\/p>\n

comparing my Self,
\ndisfavorably,
\nto my industrious
\nmanly neighbors,
\nflashing their tools
\nand implements of
\nhomey improvements.<\/p>\n

She reminded me
\nthat my constant
\ncomparisons
\nhave their roots in
\njunior high school
\nbehavior,
\nand I wound down
\nmy self-involved
\nmumblings,
\nwith apologies.<\/p>\n

This morning
\nI watched my skillful
\nneighbor
\ndrive away for his
\nmorning coffee,
\n\u2028and wondered
\nwhat demons of
\nself-doubt
\nassault him,
\nor harass the friendly
\ncraftsman
\nacross the street?<\/p>\n

Perhaps I could
\ninvite them,
\nin a manner
\nI have yet to
\ndevise,<\/p>\n

to take a plunge
\nwith me
\ninto the bottomless
\nocean of
\nexuberant Love
\nwe forget that
\nsurrounds us, and<\/p>\n

drowns
\nour foolish
\ncomparings
\nin waves of
\nbemusement.<\/p>\n
