So the story

with gorgeous
\nflowers and
\nfruitbearing trees,
\nincluding one
\nwith especially
\nluscious
\nfruit
\nthe two
\nwere forbidden
\nto eat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you disobey,\u201d
\nhe said,
\n\u201cyou\u2019ll learn the
\ndifference
\nbetween
\ngood and evil,
\nbecause
\nI\u2019ll throw
\nyou out of
\nthe garden
\nand you will
\ndie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy?
\nBecause I said so.\u201d<\/p>\n

Entire
\nworld religions
\nhave been built
\naround this
\ntale,
\nbulging with
\nthe muscle of
\n\u201cbecause I said so.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s mid-morning
\non a coffee and
\ncinnamon roll
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n

I hear a knock
\non my door.
\nI open it to
\nfind a pair
\nof bright-eyed
\nyoung men in
\nbusiness attire.<\/p>\n

They hand me
\na tract
\non which
\nis printed
\n\u201cGod Loves You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso,\u201d one of them
\nsays, smiling,
\n\u201cwe have some
\nluscious fruit
\nfor you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,
\nthank you,\u201d
\nI say,
\n\u201cI\u2019ve had
\nmy fill
\nof
\nthat fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n
