to play the part of
\nGuidance Counsellor
\nin the
\nOne Act Play
\nI\u2019m calling
\n\u201cShould I
\nKeep Trying
\nTo Write
\nThis Novel
\nThat Doesn\u2019t Seem
\nTo Be Going
\nAnywhere?\u201d<\/p>\n

If any Angels
\nhave shown up
\nto audition,
\nthey\u2019ve been invisible
\nand apparently
\nreluctant to
\nread for the part
\nout loud.<\/p>\n

But, a day
\nor so ago
\nI thought I heard
\na whisper:<\/p>\n

\u201cJust don\u2019t quit
\non it.\u201d<\/p>\n

I tried to
\nfollow up,
\nbut they
\ndidn\u2019t leave a
\ncellphone number.<\/p>\n

C\u2019mon,
\nI could have gotten
\nthat advice
\nfrom a matchbook cover
\nor a fortune cookie.<\/p>\n

But I began
\nto recall
\nsome times
\nI didn\u2019t quit,
\nlike<\/p>\n

trying to write
\na poem,<\/p>\n

or looking for
\na place
\nsurrounded by
\nthe sea,
\nwith a haunted
\ncastle and
\nits own
\nfilm festival,<\/p>\n

or how about this:<\/p>\n

looking for
\nThe One
\non the couch
\nacross from me,
\nbefore I knew
